Sitka, Alaska Port

While on our 7 night Royal Caribbean, Brilliance of the Seas cruise, we stopped at Sitka. This was one of four ports and it was my favorite!!! We chose to explore on on our at this stop. Downtown Sitka is just a short shuttle ride from the port. These shuttles were free for all cruisers. Be sure to check the return times, you don't want to be late the the ship! Once off the shuttle, we followed the signs to the National Park. This walk was all sidewalks and took about 20 minutes. A friend had recommended to visit the Sitka National Historical Park. There was a trail to follow. It was a very flat, easy walk. We saw lots of eagles along the way. You can finish the trail in 45 min if you don't stop to look at anything. The trail was full of totem poles. We spent a few hours here exploring - we loved this area. After the park, we walked back towards downtown to do some shopping. Be sure to grab a map when you get off the ship - there are lots of great little shops here. We also grabbed a cup of coffee at Highliner Coffee - it's next to the fire department.

Be sure to take your binoculars. When the trail splits, take the beach path. We saw lots of eagles flying around. We also used our binoculars to look in the trees for eagle's nests.
